4, 2003: A Lear Jet crashed on approach to the Groton-New London Airport.
Three houses in the Poquonnock Bridge neighborhood were damaged, one being
totally demolished in the ensuing fire. The jet came to rest in the
Poquonnock River, where several boats and docks were destroyed. Both
the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the accident. No one on the ground was
injured. The accident is under investigation by the FAA. |

December 21, 2003: An engine
fire in a car, due to the car being started before repairs in progress were
completed. Engines 32 and 33 responded. Fire was extinguished.
Investigated by the Fire Marshal. |

18, 2004: A structure fire started with food left unattended on a stove in
an apartment building. The fire extended into 3 other apartments,
causing substantial damage to all. Engines 32, 33, and 35 responded.
Aid was received from Groton City, Sub Base, and Old Mystic Fire
departments. The fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal. |

July 11, 2004: Overheated rubber driveway
sealant catches on fire. The fire was contained in the tank. Water was
used to cool down the tank and knock down the fire. |

January 13, 2006: Car - Dump Truck
head-on collision on Gold Star Highway. EMS personnel extricated the trapped
driver of the minivan. Approximately 40 gallons of fuel was spilled and the
state DEP was called in. |

April 8, 2006: Explosion at
local hotel, due to a burning candle overheating an aerosol can of
hairspray. |

April 30, 2006: Two car motor
vehicle accident on I-95 Southbound at exit 89. EMS Personnel assisted Old
Mystic Fire Department with extrication of the vehicle occupants. |
