Public Education

Public Education is addressed in a number of ways at the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department, from formal presentations, to handouts and videos, and to daily interaction with local residents and businesses.  There are two basic aspects of Public Education:  Fire Prevention and Fire Escape.

Local School Programs Introduction to a fire fighter in full gear.  This is important for younger children who, already frightened in a fire, might hide from his or her rescuers. The dangers of playing with matches or other flammable material. Fire prevention in the home. Escape from a fire, including the importance of having a family fire escape plan. Fire Prevention Week

 

	Educational Material for Local Businesses Emergency light and fire extinguisher testing. Fire extinguisher training handouts and videos - available at the Office of Fire Prevention. Fire safety handouts and videos Fire Safety programs presented to local civic and business organizations.
	Education for Local Residents Educational handouts covering smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, a home fire safety check list, holiday decoration safety, and other topics. Educational videos available on loan from the Office of Fire Prevention. Programs geared for the particular needs of senior citizens.
	Fire Department Visits Visits to the fire department may be arranged by calling the Office of Fire Prevention at 448-1384.  Any scheduled visit may be interrupted for fire or emergency calls.

What would you do if a loved one collapsed in front of you right now?

If you don’t know, now is your chance to learn how to save someone’s life.  The Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department is offering an Adult CPR and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training course, approved through the American Heart Association.  The cost of this program is only $15.00, for the required books and the certification card.

The class is limited to a size of 24 students, and the sign up form is at the check out desk at the Groton Public Library.  If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact the Fire Marshal’s Office at (860) 448-1384.
