Board of Directors Regular Meeting Minutes

Groton, CT 06340

December 8, 2005

 

Present:    President Alan Ackley, Vice President Peter Legnos, Clerk Monica Knaff,            Treasurer Thomas Santacroce, Chief Todd Paige, Deputy Chief Russell Shaw, and Administrative Assistant Jamie Muhlack 

Absent:      Director Jeffery Vary and Fire Marshal Michael Richards        

 

At 7:13 p.m. the clerk announced the call to order with the time, date and place.  Roll call was taken to establish a quorum. A moment of silence and a pledge to the flag followed.

 

MOTION:  It was MOVED, SECONDED and CARRIED to accept the minutes of the meetings of

October 13, 2005, November 1, 2005 and November 10, 2005

 

Tom Santacroce questioned the board’s lawful right to cancel meetings.  A discussion followed.

The president said as long as the business of the day is taken care of then the meeting can be cancelled.  

Jamie Muhlack was not able to follow up so the clerk volunteered to research this subject.  The question is how many meetings the district can cancel within one year with the notice at town hall.

 

Reports and Communications:

Chief Todd Paige’s report was accepted for record.

The Model Tech Fire Safety Hazard Simulator House and the FEMA grant were discussed.

The Chief stated that Brian Quilter and Todd Williamson have completed a course on CPR.  Wal-Mart gave a $500.00 grant to the district.  The district added $125.00 and purchased four CPR manikins: 2 adult, 2 children and a movie. 

The chief told the board that Brian Quilter and Todd Williamson are doing a good job with lots of enthusiasm. 

The deputy chief reported that Mr. Burnside will begin installation of the two burners at Long Hill Station.

Administrative Assistant Jamie Muhlack’s report was accepted for record.   

 

Unfinished Business:

The Conseco policy remains as unfinished business.  

 

New Business:

Peter Legnos moved, seconded by Tom Santacroce to purchase the Model Tech Fire Safety Hazard Simulator House for the total of $7,196. of which $5,566 will come from the FEMA funds, $430. matching funds from the district and $1.200. will be used from the Fire Prevention Budget, and passed unanimously.

 

The treasurer announced that the bills to be paid in December are $119,621.71, approved by the president. 

 

MOTION:  At 7:49 p.m. it was MOVED, SECONDED and CARRIED to adjourn.
