Board of Directors Regular Meeting Minutes

Groton, CT 06340

May 12, 2005

Present:    President Alan Ackley, Treasurer Thomas Santacroce, Director Tammy de la Cruz,                   Chief Todd Paige, Deputy Chief Russell Shaw, and Administrative Assistant Jamie                   Muhlack                

Absent:     Vice President Peter Legnos, Clerk Monica Knaff and Fire Marshal Michael Richards

Acting President Peter Legnos opened the meeting at 7:08 p.m.  The clerk announced the call to order with the time, date and place.  Roll call was taken to establish a quorum. A moment of silence and a pledge to the flag followed.

MOTION:  It was MOVED, SECONDED and CARRIED to accept the minutes of the regular meetings of April 14, 2005.

MOTION:  It was MOVED, SECONDED and CARRIED to suspend the order of business in order to hear Tim Pelton from Holdsworth and Pelton Assoc.  concerning billing for services such as car accidents, hazmat calls, fires where the person involved would file an insurance claim. Mr. Pelton suggests that the district designate where the money would be spent if the district decided to accept this plan.   

A discussion followed relevant to the cost and what to do when the billing service can not collect, insurance policies coverage and the 70% collection of incidences.  

Reports and Communications:

Chief Todd Paige’s report was accepted for the record.

Deputy Chief Russell Shaw’s report was accepted for the record. 

Jamie Muhlack‘s report was accepted for the record.

A discussion followed concerning the Quickbook accounting seminar Jamie attended.

New Business:

The chief reported the captain’s test results indicated that Firefighter Jeffrey Douchette is the best candidate. The chief recommends his promotion.  Jeff has been employed as a firefighter in this department for eight years and presently serves as acting captain.  He has truly participated in working on several different projects. He holds certification as fire officer one, fire instructor one and has been working

on enhancing his leadership training through various books.  The chief feels very confident that Jeffrey will be well prepared to fill this leadership position.

MOTION: Tammy de la Cruz moved, to give the chief authority to hire Jeffrey Douchette to the position of captain, seconded by Tom Santacroce and passed unanimously.     

The president reminded all that the annual meeting will be held next Wednesday, May 18 at 13 Fort Hill Road, Groton at 7:00pm.  A discussion followed concerning Attorney Carberry and his ability to attend this meeting as the appointed moderator.  

Presentation and payment of bills:

Tom Santacroce presented the bills to be paid in the month of May in the amount of $59,010.95.  .

MOTION:  It was moved to accept the figure of $59,010.95 for the bills to be paid in May, by Tammy de la Cruz, seconded by Tom Santacroce and passed unanimously.

MOTION:  At 10:05 pm it was MOVED, SECONDED and CARRIED to adjourn.
